Expanding Your Keyword List and Gathering Data
In this step you will be using a the Google Keyword Tool to expand your keyword list and gather search volume data. You will use the data you collect to prioritize your keywords for use on your site.
First you need to go to navigate to the Google Keyword Tool.
Step 1
Follow the steps in the image below. You can enter multiple keyword phrases in the #2 field if you wish(multiple keyword phrases must be
entered on separate lines).

Step 2
After a few seconds the results will appear below. Scroll down and before you start grabbing your keyword data there one more thing you need to change.
Once you make the change below the result numbers should change almost immediately. By applying this one
change you are now seeing the search numbers for the exact keyword match. When it is in broad match it will
show larger numbers because: it is showing search numbers for any search containing those keywords in any order
which in some cases are not relevant.

Step 3
The image below is to explain the results. You can sort the results from highest searches to lowest searches by
clicking the appropriate link.

Step 4
For this step you can use a word processor or a spreadsheet to save and organize your data.
Now write down the relevant keywords or enter them into your spreadsheet/word processor. Next to each keyword enter the "Approximate Avg Search Volume" number. This number is the approximate average amount of times that that exact keyword phrase has been searched for in Google(keep in mind that this number is often inflated due to other real estate agents and SEO's checking the rank of their site in the search results).
Step 5
If you scroll down far enough you will see a separate section that is labeled "Additional keyword to consider". Right next to that there is a little button that says "sort by relevance". Click that to re-sort the keywords below. Most of these keywords will be to broad and therefore a waste of time to try and optimize for. But, there are usually a few good ones so it's worth looking through them to get a few more keywords and possibly a few ideas for more keywords.
If you get any ideas be sure to write them down so you can do more research on them later or you can scroll up and do it now by repeating this process from step one and entering the new keyword(s) that you don't currently have data for. When doing additional keyword research it is likely that you will run into keywords that you already have data for so be sure to watch out for those. You don't need to record them twice.
That's it for this part of the keyword research process and the next step is going to be the last one in this section. Press the back button or click the link below to go to the next step
