Analytics - Tracking User Behavior

Tracking user behavior on your website using some sort of analytics program is more important than you might think.

Most real estate websites have some sort of tracking already installed. And from my experience they are not always that great. You should take a look at what your site provider has to offer(assuming it's free) check the stats to make sure they are realistic. Some tracking programs also track crawlers and this will show unrealistic numbers and false user behavior. If you suspect your providers analytics program is doing this or that it doesn't give you enough information try Google Analytics. It's Free.

The whole purpose of tracking is to help you understand your visitors so you can do a better job of meeting their needs. Well, maybe that's not the whole purpose but that is a big part of it. You want to see where they are coming from: if from a search engine, what keyword? You also want to see where they are going. Are they clicking your links to get more info and use your site? Or, are they leaving your site 5 seconds after they get there? If they are leaving you want to know from what page are they leaving? so you can try to fix it.

If you get a few visitors from a search engine and they are from a keyword you are not targeting... You can make a new page or modify an existing page to target that keyword.

All in all, your analytics data can help you generate more leads from your website. If you don't have analytics setup on your site you should get it set up and tracking even if you don't plan on using the data right now. This way, when you do want to take a look you don't have to set it up and wait a month or more to get enough data.
